I was honored to have Robert Lufkin MD the author of the new book “LIES I TAUGHT IN MEDICAL SCHOOL” on episode 14 of Wellness at the Speed of Light . We explored so many topics related to the chronic metabolic health crisis and gross misinformation of the public and the medical community, including the profound impact of Big Pharma and Big Food.
Dr. Robert Lufkin, a professor at UCLA and USC, brings a wealth of expertise from his incredible academic background. His insights into the influence of corporate interests on public health are informed by his extensive knowledge and commitment to ethical health policies. His advocacy for evidence-based guidelines prioritizes public welfare over corporate profits, highlighting the need for transparency and independence in health recommendations.
Dr Lufkin points out that things like the food pyramid guidelines were heavily influenced by groups with significant connections to the food industry, which is why the staples in the American diet are grains and other junk foods. The American Heart Association, historically funded by companies with stakes in vegetable oils, continues to recommend these as heart-healthy despite potential health risks. Moreover, the American Diabetic Association, sponsored by a corporation that profits from diabetes treatment, offers dietary advice that may not necessarily align with the best health outcomes for diabetics.
This conversation underscores the urgent need for a more transparent, independent formulation of health guidelines, free from commercial influence.
